Looks like the middle schools and high schools in Indiana are going to get additional support from Purdue. It was announced yesterday that WIRED which is administered by Purdue is donating $1.57 Million in funds for north central schools in Indiana. This will open the doors for over 70 local schools to adopt Project Lead the Way. If you haven't seen or heard about this fantastic organization, take a look at www.pltw.org. It is a not for profit organization started by a business owner. It really concentrates on project based learning and requires continued training for teachers. Local universities like Purdue assist in the training of these teachers. It has documented success with the implementation of the program. They have branch classes in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Aerospace, Mechanical, Biomedical Science, Architectural, and Civil.
In some cases, these classes have created a young entrepreneur. Look at one student who was featured in a news story. http://www.pltw.org/in-the-news/articles/EDD-student-car-starter.html
